Covered by most of Extended Health Benefit Plans

  • The therapy is provided by a registered counselling professional that can be covered by most of Extended Health Benefit Plans up to 90-100%.

Tips to find if you are covered for counseling therapy under your plan:
  • 1) Consult with the HR department of your workplace or contact the manager of your self-financed health plan to find out the specifics of the extended health plan (often provided in a booklet, on a website or via telephone);

  • 2) Packages usually outline which therapist/counsellor credentials are covered by the insurance plan; specifically, you might ask to ensure your insurance plan covers counselling fee from a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) or Registered Social Worker(RSW) with master degree(MSW). The registration number of the CCC is #238194. The registration number of RSW is #17027.

  • 3) Request information on the yearly maximum for counselling expense reimbursement; the deductible or the per cent of coverage for each visit.
